The GIS Application Centre (GAC) was established in September 1995, under the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) in Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok – Thailand as a non-profitable training centre dedicated to disseminate the effective use of GIS and related technologies. Goal

  • to provide best facilities for integrationof RS, GIS and GPS technologies.
  • to provide professional training for human resource development in the field of RS, GIS and GPS.
  • to disseminate these technologies through real application.
  • to provide technical assistance and consulting service.

Facilities GAC is equipped with Unix Workstations, Pentium PCs, A3 and A0 digitizers, A0 colour printer, A0 scanner and A3 full colour printer hardwares. The GIS and RS softwares include ER Mapper, ARC/INFO, ArcView, ERDAS, MapInfo, PCI, ENVI and IDRISI.

Training Programme GAC training courses are designed to address burning issues prevalent in the Asia Pacific region with real world examples. It emphasises on hands-on training than on long lectures. Three types of training programmes are offered in GAC, sponsored, regular and tailored training programmes. The sponsored and regular training programmes with pre-defined curriculum can be offered as Advanced Course and Basic Course. The tailored training programme is designed for client organisations or donor agencies and is offered as Advanced Course, Basic Course and Software Specific Course.
